New Airport planned Maratua Island, East Kalimantan

The Jakarta Post reports, Authorities in the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan are planning to develop a new airport on Maratua island - a remote spot located just off the east coast of Kalimantan, famous for its diving sites. The new airport is designed to promote the island's tourism industry. Visitors wanting to travel to Maratua currently have to take a local boat from the mainland after flying to Kalimarau airport. Kalimarau airport was recently connected by Sriwijaya Air flight from Surabaya. Constructions of the new airport is scheduled to commence by end of next year.
